Level: Easy
Serves: 6 servings
Ingredients
4 hoagie rolls
4 tbsp. melted butter
2 tbsp. olive oil, divided
1 onion, sliced
2 bell peppers, sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 ½ lb. sirloin steak, sliced into strips
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
8 slices provolone
Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Directions
Preheat the oven up to 3500. Grease a large casserole with nonstick cooking spray.
Cut the hoagies into think 1 inch cube and toss them with melted butter.
Transfer the hoagies into the prepared casserole dish and bake them until they are lightly golden. This should take about 10 minutes.
Heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and peppers and season everything with pepper and salt.
Cook stirring everything occasionally until the vegetables are tender. Stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant. This will take about a minute. Transfer the contents to a bowl.
Turn up the heat to a medium-high and heat up the remaining olive oil (1 tbsp) and add the steak in a single layer, working in batches if you think it’s necessary.
Season the steak with salt and pepper. Let it sear until the bottom is darkened.
Flip the steak and sear the other side. Add in the vegetables back to the skillet and stir in the Worcestershire sauce.
Check for seasonings once again and remove from heat.
Add the meat and vegetable mixture to the casserole. Toss gently with the toasted hoagie cubes. Top everything with provolone cheese. Bake it until the cheese is melted and bubbles. This will take about 15 minutes.
Garnish with parsley and serve the dish warm.
