The ideal way of ironing is in long straight strokes. Try not to wriggle the iron too much on the cloth because it might stretch the fabric. Wriggling the iron on the cloth might even cause creases you cannot get rid of.

Banish creases right away with a DIY ironing spray. Mix up equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray on to the areas with really bad creases. If you think vinegar might stink up the cloth, you can add few drops of rosewater, lavender or a bit of your perfume to the spray.
