The beloved dishwashers certainly make our time in the kitchen much easy. But does it mean we should just throw in every dirty dish, plate, knife in the dishwasher? Maybe not. Let’s find out.
Don’t put your garlic press in the dishwasher
It is tempting to put almost everything in the dishwasher but there are many things that are definitely deadly for the dishwasher that you should not even try to put inside to clean.
The pressure made by a garlic press often leaves the garlic pieces stuck on the side. The pieces are wedged in so well that even the strong current of your dishwasher will struggle to remove them. It is much better to wash the garlic presses by hand before you put them in the wash to make sure that the garlic is removed and it is completely clean.
Wash your chef knives by hand
The top quality knives don’t come cheap. If you have already invested in a good set of knives or are planning to do it, make sure you look after them properly.
If you throw them in the dishwasher there is a high chance that the abrasive detergents will wear off the sharp edges of the knives. They might also move around and damage the insides of the dishwasher.
Do not put copper in the dishwasher
The new copperware in your kitchen will look stunning. Yes we agree with that. But if you want to preserve that look for some time, the last thing you might want to do is putting them in the dishwasher to wash. They will change color, become mottled and even give off a rusty appearance.
Washing your precious antique plates
Do not risk putting these in the dishwasher. Especially if they have an emotional meaning to you. You should rather wash them by hand instead.
